On the longest night of the year, we take time to acknowledge that long nights are a painful but true part of our journey with God.
Our Longest Night Reflective Service allows space for silence to remember loved ones and creates space for sorrow in our broken world, even as we celebrate the hope of Christmas. We will guide you through space for reflection and prayer, with reflective music throughout. The service will last about 45 minutes. Because of the silence and reflection, we suggest that children not be included. We invite you to join us at 7pm on Tuesday, December 21st at Aspira. Shalom Sistas: Living Wholeheartedly in a Brokenhearted World by Osheta Moore
We all love the idea of Shalom, right? We know that it is God's dream for the world and for His church. But how do I fit into that dream when I am so broken? And also, who has the time? And where did we get the idea that a calling from God is only a "calling" if it is big enough, or hard enough, or if we sacrifice enough? And what can we do with all of the injustice and unrest in this broken world? We are so far from Shalom. Moore addresses all of these concepts in this meaty, thought-provoking book! Moore suggests that Shalom happens in 4 areas: Peace with God, Peace with Ourselves, Peace with our Community, and Peace in the World. She proposes the idea of becoming an everyday, ordinary peacemaker right now in our everyday, ordinary lives. She asks, "What would happen if Jesus-followers catch that vision of Shalom?" and "What would happen when Shalom Sistas unite?" Everyone is invited to join Lori Kellogg in a study of this book. We will be meeting 2 times per week and on two different platforms. Both meetings will discuss the same chapters each week. FTF: Face-to-face group meetings will be held on Sundays from 9 am - 10:15 am at Aspira Academy beginning November 7th. ZM: Zoom group will meet on Wednesday evenings from 8 pm - 9:15 pm beginning November 9. We will plan another FTF meeting per month at another time so that both groups will have opportunities for community building, conversation, and fun together! LifePath will be ordering the books for everyone! (If you'd like to reimburse LifePath for your book, the cost is $15) Please respond to Lori at lori.kellogg@yahoo.com by November 1 to let her know which class you'd be interested in and that you need a book ordered for you. Unfortunately, the weather isn't looking cooperative for Fire and Fun this Friday. (And LifePath is no longer assuming the best when it comes to weather... we've been rained on too many times!) We are going to postpone the event to next Friday, 11/5. Same details:
In the off chance the weather doesn't cooperate on Friday, 11/5, we will switch to an indoor hang out at Aspira (unfortunately, the school isn't available this Friday) Remember, our next event is Saturday, November 20th, 1-3pm. We'll be helping our Aspira community by working to prepare the Aspira Outdoor Learning Environment for winter. We do a lot of fun activities, but we also value serving our community, and this is a great way to have some fun in nature AND show our love to Aspira.

As always, please reach out to Adam with any questions, concerns, offers to help, or complaints. In the before times, every 2 to 3 months, the LifePath community would spend our gathering time eating brunch together. We would do this to remind ourselves that the Church is more than singing and teaching, it's a group of people sharing their lives together with Jesus. We would also do this because it's fun.
What does a brunch look like? We start with a big table, mostly empty, with just coffee, juice, plates, napkins, and plasticware. We ask each family to bring a dish to share: an egg casserole, some fruit, some Dunkin Donuts (or Duck Donuts if you're really fancy). Spend hours baking delicious cinnamon rolls, or swing by a store and grab a container of blueberry muffins on your way in. It's not about what we are eating. It's about sharing a meal together. When it's time to eat, we fill our plates and then find seats. Sit with someone you haven't talked to in awhile (or ever!) and strike up a conversation. Ask questions. Tell them about yourself. Talk about everything, talk about nothing, talk about the Eagles chances of winning their game (spoiler alert: they probably won't). This brunch will look a little different than pre-Covid. We'll be eating outside. Some families may choose to bring their own food and not eat the shared dishes. Some families may choose to sit a bit away from others. Do whatever is best for your family. We look forward to sharing a meal together! Every other Sunday from June 27th to September 5th, 6th-12th graders are invited to leave when KidsLife is dismissed and head to Cafeteria Uno (previously used for Little KidsLife) for a time of discussion and a movie study (like a book study, but with less imagination required.) We'll be watching Salt and Light Ministry's The Girl Behind the Door.
Here's what Salt and Light Youth Ministry says about the movie: For six weeks, we will be watching the film “The Girl Behind the Door.” The story follows a character named Sylvie, a girl who wrestles with so much fear, she hides herself in a small room behind a door, hoping to protect herself from the dangers she imagines outside. As we explore Sylvie’s story and her world behind the door, our hope is that you will imagine your own. And as you examine the mysteries hiding within, many visitors will come to call. There will be terrors we must challenge and dreams we must remember. There will be peace to embrace and lies to unravel. There will be freedom that demands sacrifice, and the temptation to trade love’s unknown for safety’s loneliness. Jesus promises us in John 16, “I have told you these things so you may have peace in me. In this world you WILL have trouble...you will have sorrows and trials. But take heart and have courage...I have overcome the world!” (John 16: 33 NIV, NLT). Jesus promises two things: earthly trouble...and his presence within it. Everyone has a door, behind which looms the most vulnerable pieces of our stories. As the door creaks open and we face what is waiting...let us take courage, for Jesus waits there too...and he has overcome both the known and unknown places. You can watch the trailer here. The study will take place 6/27, 7/11, 7/25, 8/8, 8/22, and 9/5. Reach out to Adam with any questions! |
